Sofia Goggia was successfully operated at the La Madonnina Clinic in Milan by Dr. Andrea Panzeri, President of the FISI Medical Commission, in collaboration with Dr. Riccardo Accetta, head of the UO of Traumatology of the IRCCS Galeazzi-Sant’Ambrogio Hospital, for the reduction of a multi-fragmentary fracture of the right tibial pilon. The operation was perfectly successful, the athlete has been applied a plate with seven screws and will observe a period of rest and unloading for about 40 days, and then begin the most active part of physiotherapy, which will begin in the coming days.
Goggia was on the third lap of the first day of training on the Casola Nera slope in Pontedilegno (Bs), where she was preparing for the next World Cup event in Soldeu. While taking a turn to the right, her right ski got caught in a gate, causing her to fall. “Another injury that interrupts my run-up to a new Downhill World Cup,” said the unfortunate champion from Bergamo before entering the operating theatre, “but I will be able to rise once again”.
